TressCare Tips
After Receiving Your S&S Package...
- inspect the packaging, bundles, closure, and/or frontal to make sure that you have received the correct textures and lengths. if you notice that the items are not correct, please call or email within 24-hours of receiving your package.
- after inspecting your package, make sure to carefully untie your bundles to refrain from shedding or snapping the strands.
- before installing make sure to shampoo your bundles, closure, and/or frontal 1-2 times, no more than twice to keep from stripping the hair of its moisture. over-shampooing (dehydrating) your bundles will result in dry, frizzy, unmanageable tresses.
- when conditioning, it is okay to allow the conditioner to sit for at least 10 mins. this will add moisture back to the hair and promotes longevity.
- make sure to rinse out the conditioner completely! if there is still conditioner on your tresses it will leave a film coating making the hair feel stiff or weighed down.
- use a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush when detangling so that you won’t snag or snap the hair strands. make sure the hair is still damp when doing so. always comb from the ends to the root or ‘weft’ to prevent tangling.
- apply a dime size of oil or serum, make sure not to add too much or it will make your tresses appear stringy and thin. use as needed, this is not something you want to do everyday.
- allow your bundles, closure, and/or frontal to air dry or blow-dry on cool or warm heat. if curly, you can use a diffuser attachment on your blowdryer to define the curls.
*Here’s a tip: heat damage comes from the overuse of hot tools.
Recommended Ways To Install…
- repeat after me, “ALL HAIR SHEDS!” our natural hair sheds between 50-100 strands daily. when it comes to tresses, there should be minimal shedding when using combs, brushes, hair ties, styling tools and products. when you take care of your tresses properly, it will decrease the amount of shedding from the wefts.
- try to minimize the amount of wefts you cut when installing, as this creates excessive shedding.
- when making a wig, if you choose the glue method, use a hot glue gun instead of hair glue to preserve your wefts. you can peel hot glue off of your wefts for reuse, whereas hair glue does not budge.
- when bleaching your lace closure or lace frontal make sure not to over-process the lace or hair as this can cause shedding, balding, or thinning of your lace.
- when bleaching your bundles make sure to watch your bundles as they lift, it is very easy to over-process your tresses with bleach.
- refrain from over-plucking/tweezing or constant tugging on your lace to ensure that you get the most longevity out of your lace closures and lace frontals.
Blending Your Natural Hair...
- for straight or wavy textures, use a round brush or paddle brush, and a blow dryer on warm heat while stretching both your natural hair and tresses to start the blending process.
- hot styling tools settings such as flat irons should never surpass 400º to 450º especially for everyday use. apply a thermal mist or thermal spray before pressing out the hair. use a single pass or as least amount of passes as possible on a section of hair, to further prevent heat damage.
- curly textures should be blended with either a curling wand, curling iron, crimping iron, flexi rods, small rollers, or perm rods. whether heat styling or rod styling, grab a piece of both your natural hair and Tresses for a flawless blend.
- for naturally curly hair, no heat styling is best! use of equal parts conditioner and water in a spray bottle will allow for a flawless blend. choose the best curly tresses that match your natural curl pattern.
- adding layers to your curly, wavy, or straight tresses sometimes helps with further blending your natural hair.
Daily & Nightly TRESScare...
- shampoo and condition thoroughly every time there’s product build-up. always shampoo once unless you have excessive product build up, in this case you will shampoo twice, apply conditioner and let it sit for 5-10 mins before rinsing.
- frizz is normal and a common trait with virgin hair and curlier textures. use no more than a quarter size of serum or hair oil to tame the frizz. applying too much product will leave a film coating on the hair and weight it down causing it too look stringy or oily.
- curly textures require more maintenance than straight or wavy textures, so you may find yourself shampooing and conditioning or hydrating with serum or hair oil more often.
- at night, comb your straight or wavy tresses into a wrap and tie it up with a silk scarf. you may also braid or twist your tresses from root to ends and secure it in a bonnet.
- curly textures can be put into a high ponytail or ‘pineapple method’ where you use a hair tie wrapped around your tresses once. you don’t want to secure it tight like a regular ponytail or it will leave an imprint from the hair tie disrupting the natural curl pattern. use a bonnet or silk scarf to secure it.
- always tie down your lace closure or lace frontal before applying your bonnet, a silk or satin scarf and bonnet is recommended. this will keep the moisture in your bundles, closure, and/or frontal and stop your lace from shifting or sliding back. this will also prevent balding, excessive shedding, snagging, and dryness being that cotton products pull the moisture out of your hair.
