Raw Hair Extensions

Raw Hair comes directly from the temples in India. It is given as a sacrifice from various Indian women, and it is often traded for money. 'Raw' means that it is Unprocessed Virgin Hair which is the highest quality of hair, because it has NEVER been altered or chemically changed in anyway. Raw Hair is very luxurious, high-maintenance, and highly in-demand!

Each bundle only has one single donor, it is single drawn, meaning the hair will not have a definite length to it. It will range between 2-3 different lengths like that of natural hair that grows from your scalp. The lifespan is much higher than that of steam-processed virgin hair, meaning you can keep it for up to 3 years or longer without having to purchase more hair.

The donor's hair is either shaved off or put into a ponytail and then cut. The second method is how cuticles can end up in the wrong direction which causes tangling. All of the cuticles should still be intact. The hair is then sewn onto a weft with no blend of other hairs, fibers, or fillers.

The origins Brazilian, Malaysian, Peruvian, Japanese, Italian, Russian, etc. are all marketing tricks used to draw in customers! Fancy labeling used to make you think that you are buying the highest quality of hair on the market.

'Mink' is another word for 'Raw Hair' meaning the hair is so silky, it feels like mink. However, companies use this word very loosely when in fact a very high percentage of them are not selling you raw hair or 'mink' eyelashes at all.

The color of each bundle may have lighter or darker tones depending on the donor's natural hair color. The curl and wave patterns vary as well, some looser or tighter than other bundles, depending on the donor's hair texture.

Virgin Hair Extensions

Virgin Hair is 'steam processed' Raw Hair that comes from 2-3 donors. The lifespan of virgin hair is 1-3 years. ’Steam Processed’ means that the hair is taken from the heads of multiple donors with the similar hair textures and patterns and then ironed bone straight or curled/waved using high steam and waving rods. These donor's may or may not have had a chemical service done to their natural hair such as perm, relaxer, color treatment (bleach, tint, dye), etc. Those processes result in the hair no longer being unprocessed raw virgin hair.

Being that high steam levels are used to alter the original hair texture and pattern, this is why over time some curl or wave patterns fall back to a looser wave or completely straight, this is also why straight hair can have a wave to it when wet. Also, this is why some hair doesn't hold a curl. Some companies will sell you lower hair quality labeling it as virgin hair when it's in fact a blend.

Virgin Hair is double drawn meaning that it is sorted and aligned to flow evenly at one length. All of the short of uneven hair strands are removed so you are less likely to have flyaways. When you order a specific length that is exactly what you will receive.

'Remi' or 'Remy' means that all of the cuticles (root of a single hair strand) are aligned and sewn onto a weft in the same direction, from the root to end which decreases the chance of tangling or matting. 'Remi' does not mean that it is 'real' human hair.

There is no such thing as the grade system 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A, etc. When it’s advertised that way, companies are basically telling on themselves by saying ‘this is how much virgin hair is in the bundle mixed with other hair, synthetic hair, fillers or fibers. There is no grade to hair, it is simply Raw Unprocessed, Steam-Processed, Human Hair, Human Hair-Blend or Synthetic Hair.

Human Hair Extensions

Human Hair is can be made from hair-like fibers or actual raw hair from multiple donors that is then washed in an acid bath or bleach bath to strip the hair of its cuticles. The hair is then coated with chemicals, silicon, acrylic, and/or various other products to help tame and manipulate the hair. Once the cuticles are stripped from the hair, it can now be manipulated into any color, texture, or pattern desired. However, removing the cuticles decreases the lifespan of the hair to less than 6 months being that the hair is no longer alive.

Human Hair is most commonly found in your local beauty supply stores, along with synthetic hair, and human hair blends that have a mixture of synthetic and other fibers as well as human hair in it. This is the reason why some "human hair" brands and textures don't have a long lifespan, less than 3-6 months.

Synthetic Hair Extensions

Synthetic Hair is a synthetic polymer 'acrylic' that is heated up and then pulled into individual hair-like fibers, plastic fibers. It is made to look like human hair but it has the shortest lifespan, lasts anywhere from a couple hours to a couple weeks or months (If high-grade synthetic hair) and its not easily manipulated. It can be very shiny and not so appealing because of its shine, making it look very unrealistic. However, it can be worn right out of the package with little no manipulation/styling.

Higher grades of synthetic hair allow you to apply mild heat for styling. Less likely to irritate your skin, or have a strong chemical odor. Synthetic hair comes in various forms: wigs, extensions, ponytails, braiding hair, crochet hair, etc. The choices are limitless and the desire for synthetic hair always depends on the style you are going for.
